Friday check in:
Last week we started much like those fourth graders and Styrofoam cups. All of you were given the same soil in a cup. The same feedback challenge. So what did you do with it?
The challenge: ask someone you trust for honest feedback on how you can improve in: bed side manner, team building, all around leadership skills.
When we accept feedback and grow from it, we become the one fourth grader who comes to class with a sprout, while everyone else returns with a question mark on their cups, not understanding why it either died, or nothing happened. We’re all given the same material. We all receive feedback, but it’s a personal responsibility how much you are willing to grow from it.
The superb source behind many of these ideas is the book Thanks for the Feedback by Douglas Stone and Sheila Heene.
