The First Amendment of Leadership – Check In

Five days is a long time to remember to do something, but hopefully you were more active in seeing your negativity and who provoked it. What patterns did you notice? Who sparked vocal criticism? What made you frustrated? How did they, or it, provoke you?

Were you by any chance tired or hungry when this negativity came along? Had you been criticized only moments before and needed someone to lash out on?

These are questions to help you review your hot-spot moments of the week, when all of the sudden you had to say something in order to get out your frustration. It’s ok. You’re not less because of it; if anything you’re ten steps ahead for noticing what makes you negative and critical.

We’ll get into steps to improve this next week, but in the meantime keep observing. Write down when you are provoked and why. Don’t think that you can just make a mental note. Leadership growth is intentional and you are too busy to remember mental notes.
