This week’s challenge is particular, and it will be short but significant. The lack of this skill is becoming increasingly common in our society. Today’s challenge is based around phone calls. This might sound a little strange, but for those of you who conduct any business over the phone, a phone call can remove the immediate accountability of being fully present.
You can easily scroll through your emails, social media, or schedule on your computer during a phone call with your team member, someone making an appointment, or even your spouse. This is especially tempting when the person on the other end of the call is someone who likes to talk. Being fully present should become something that you don’t just turn on and off but something you are known for. If you are consistently present in person but inconsistently present on the phone, it is going to be extremely hard to build a habit of being fully present.
This week’s challenge: Unless it’s an absolute emergency, power down electronically and power up mentally when you are on the phone. No exceptions.
