This past week I related an experience from the women’s shelter I’m volunteering with in Thailand.
There have been countless situations of feeling inferior and like the village idiot.
The challenge for you was: determine how you react to painful situations, and make a game plan for how you are going to react in the future.
Many of you hold positions of leadership. In the medical field, to get to where you are now is no small feat, and it certainly wasn’t done without eating a fair share of humble pie.
That being said, you probably don’t have moments of inferiority too often with where you’re at. But with most principles of leadership, you are always being watched by your team members.
So make sure that the way you react to your painful moments are how you would want your team to react.
I chose humor and quickly accepting that I messed up. Some people won’t choose humor but just quick humility. What’s important is that you recognize how you react and that it will dictate how your team reacts to criticism.
Good luck this week!
