Friday check in:
One minute and counting…
So let’s review the challenge: find one moment, in every day this week, where your emotions boiled over.
Maybe you’re perfect and this was completely irrelevant for you. Maybe your emotions are completely in check.
However, the rest of us probably had a daily bout with too much of one negative emotion. Guilt, impatience, jealousy, fear, anxiety, hopelessness.
So what? Maybe you did. Why does this matter?
Listen closely… It matters because your emotions and the emotions of others, if left unchecked, dictate decisions and outcomes.
What do emotions effect? Everything.
They affect whether or not you’re going to cry in front of your boss. They affect your ability to think and act. You can’t be focused on the person and conflict in front of you when your head and thought patterns are blurred by frustration, or anger,or even jealousy.
These next few posts we will focus on the reality of emotion. It’s effects on day to day conflict resolution, and the ability within each of us to master our emotions and properly handle the emotions of others.
Beyond Reason, the capstone book of Roger Fisher’s amazing career in conflict resolution, is the source of the information in this blog-post.
