I asked you this past week to give people the benefit of the doubt and then see if thereâ€™s was anything you could do for them. I hope you got the thrill of seeing someone surprised that they werenâ€™t in hot water. Depending on your team members level of comfort around you, you might have learned more about their lives and what makes them tick.
When doing hard things like this become a necessity of leadership, itâ€™s important to ask why. Why go through the effort? I have enough on my plate! Because one of leadershipâ€™s greatest reward is loyalty. Few things beat the thrill of knowing your team members trust you to have their backs and that they have yours. The results of being empathetic are far greater than the short moments of everyday you take to be empathetic.
Donâ€™t forget that no challenge has an expiration date. If this is something you specifically need to work on, take this whole month to focus on it. These challenges arenâ€™t given trivially, theyâ€™re given for you to grow as leaders and feel the amazing satisfaction that comes from a strong work environment and an amazing legacy youâ€™re given the opportunity to leave behind.
