This past week’s challenge has hopefully opened your eyes a bit to how you see your employees and how important it is for them to have insight into their own expectations – the what and why of their positions.
As a leader you have the responsibility of facilitating an environment where expectations can be explained. It shouldn’t be threatening or demeaning – Just clearly explained and inspiring. If you feel unsure on how to do this, remember that focusing on what they’re doing right first, is always helpful. They should want to do it the right way because of how you explain it to them. Inspire accountability instead of reverting to the common “holding people accountable”.
One of the greatest attributes of leadership is helping people not only grow, but inspiring them to want to grow.
This is easier said than done, especially when each person is so different in regards to how they accept feedback.
As always I am happy to trouble shoot on this. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you find yourself stumped on the approach.
Have a great weekend, and remember, you’re growing as a leader too! If you’re reading this it shows that you’ve at least taken a first step!
