It’s Friday and maybe you forgot what this week’s challenge was. I’ll remind you that truly growing as a leader is dependent upon your daily efforts, not weekly reminders.
For those who did remember, great job! Did you take that 60 seconds or more in every conversation to be present for a noticeable amount of time? Two weeks ago we talked about respect and last week added acknowledgment to the skill set. These eleven principles will interlink with each other to form a leadership foundation.
If you respect someone you listen to them. It’s simple – but it is easy when you like them, hard when you do not. Hearing out an overly anxious family for the second week in a row might be at the same level of difficulty as hearing out your teenager tell you why you’re the worst person ever.
However, when you are fully present, you respect them and they begin to realize that you care. This will often will result in immediate respect and relief from that anxious family, and eventual (let’s not be too hopeful) respect from your moody teenager. The dividends of someone knowing you care are priceless.
